You are a product of what you eat

“You are what you eat”, this phrase has caused me to watch whatever I eat.

I was introduced to this phrase at quite a young age and then having this wild imagination that if I ate an apple I would become one in a few years’ time. This theory of my imagination did not last long as I later found I never became what I ate.

Now I understand that it was meant as a warning to choose carefully whatever I put into my mouth. The very things we take in become part of our body. From the food, we eat we gain certain nutrients that helps our body to function well. It enters through the mouth where it is masticated then it is propelled to a gastric and intestinal phase where the nutrients are subtracted and the waste excreted.

So as it is in the physical so it is in the spiritual. When we read the word of God it is as though we enter the first phase of digestion, mastication. We partially break down the word of God, but our spiritual body does not receive its nutrients yet.

For the word of God to become part of us, we need to meditate upon it. We have to swallow and allow the Holy Spirit to subtract the nutrients and excrete the waste. Our spirit being become stronger when we constantly feast on the word. Every scripture holds different taste and it will awaken specific taste bud to suit it. Once it is triggered we receive a sensation of the scripture. The word of God holds comforting words when we are sad, spicy words that strengthen us when we are weak and encouraging words whenever we feel defeated. We thus receive sensations of joy, love and strength from the same food source.

We should avoid feasting on junk food on a regular basis. The junk food has a different taste and some are easily accessible,  filling and delightful, but its harbours effects that slow or completely destroy some body function.

Words of others should not be our daily diet, be it words that hurt us or flattering words that cause us to become conceited. As soon as you taste it know that it is bad food for the spiritual body, spit it out. The taste you may never forget but once you continually feed on it you slowly kill yourself.

See once you eat this junk food, the space for healthy food starts shrinking and you eat less of what builds your spirit. Whatever hurtful word was spoken against you, forgive, don’t allow it to be planted into your body and bear bad fruits. Flattering words are sweet, but eating plenty of it makes you obese and trust me they don’t apologise for negatively recreating your unhealthy body image.

Remember who you are and what you have attained is only by the grace of God. What’s great about the word of God is that it fits any season and it’s freely available (for mahala). Let’s add to our daily diet the word of God, fill our spirit with great things and reap greatness. Whatever you digest becomes part of you and secretes certain effects so continue feasting on the word of God and secrete greatness.

  2. Very inspiring....feeding on a routing daily devotional, it's like feeding on fast food, we need to eat well and move from taking milk(babe's food) to eating solid food.
