INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE

Dear friends around the world,

As you may know, this coming Sunday, the 11th of February, will be the United Nations International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
This day was adopted because we need to tap into 100% of our potential to achieve sustainable development: we need more women working in all STEM fields, from computer science to mathematics and biology to engineering. As you know, achieving this requires a change in attitudes and challenging stereotypes. 

In this spirit, this year we have chosen to flip the stereotype of the "Mad Scientist" on its head, and instead ask you to tell us why you are Mad for Science -- that is, what makes you passionate about science? What excites you and makes your work fun?

We invite you, women scientists, to join the conversation by contributing to our social media campaign: between now and February 11, simply upload a photo or a short video of yourself to your social media accounts, explaining the above, with the hashtags #Madforscience and, to join in the UNESCO campaign to encourage girls to enter STEM careers, #ChooseScience. "Action shots" of you in your lab or office, giving a presentation, or teaching are especially encouraged. We also invite you to print the attached poster and hold it in your photo or video. 

If you do not have a social media account of your own, don't worry, you can still participate. Please send your submission to our Communications Officer Erin Johnson at ejohnson@owsd.net and we will be able to post it for you. 
We here at OWSD look very much forward to receiving your photos and videos and showing the world how many impressive women scientists are doing invaluable work all around the world. 

So let's go out there and spread our love for science.

1. Living with others can be tough but living alone is worst. 2. Learn to study people from a distance. Always trust your instinct when u meet someone, don't ever ignore that caution. If you ignore be ready to face whatever happens afterwards. 3. You need to learn the act of forgiveness to live together with people. You can't be an unforgiving Christian. 4. Just because things don't work out your own way; doesn't mean you are under a spiritual attack. It may be you are raising up something that God wants to kill. 5. Anytime you get into a new era you have to humble yourself. 6. The uniqueness of the complications in your life is the clues that unfold the destiny of your future. 7. My oldest daughter, Jenna, recently said to  me , “My greatest fear as a child was that you and mom would get divorced. Then, when I was 12, I decided that you fought so much that maybe it would be better if you did.” Then she added with a smile. “I’m glad you guys figured things out.” For years, my wife, Keri, and I struggled. Looking back, I’m not exactly sure what initially drew us together, but our personalities didn’t quite match up. And the longer we were married the more extreme the differences seemed. I can't leave him, I love till death! I am a loving woman. I am a caring man. What of my children! How about their future! How will they survive? Most individuals both men and women remain in abusive relationships and keep quiet. They are afraid of how the world will view their partners; so they keep covering up their partner's track, giving excuses for their actions instead of crying out for intervention or help.... they die daily eventually leading to depression. Depression is not sudden; it is a gradual process. It is a sickness that kills within a short while and sometimes gradually. Are u satisfied with the state of your life today? How is your relationship with your family, friends and colleagues? Are you happy with your job (for those who have one)? Are you happy with your career choices or did you make a mistake with your choice? Do you love your job or do you just go there for survival? “You are what you eat”, this phrase has caused me to watch whatever I eat.  I was introduced to this phrase at quite a young age and then having this wild imagination that if I ate an apple I would become one in a few years’ time. This theory of my imagination did not last long as I later found I never became what I ate.  Now I understand that it was meant as a warning to choose carefully whatever I put into my mouth. The very things we take in become part of our body. From the food, we eat we gain certain nutrients that helps our body to function well. It enters through the mouth where it is masticated then it is propelled to a gastric and intestinal phase where the nutrients are subtracted and the waste excreted.  So as it is in the physical so it is in the spiritual.
